Meet Our Staff

Rev. Cory Smith, Pastor, has been Woodland's minister since June 1997. He and his wife Alicia have a young daughter, Sarah Morgan, and they live in the church parsonage on Vaughn Road. Cory's father is also a Methodist minister, and he pastors a church in South Alabama. Cory is a graduate of Southern Mississippi University the Candler School of Theology at Emory University, and is currently taking courses for his doctorate. Rev.Turpin Ashurst, Associate Pastor, joined the staff of Woodland in August 2006; he is busy putting miles on his BMW motorcycle visiting our members! Turpin spent a career in the Army as a Chaplin and "retired" a second time as an UMC minister before Woodland called him back. He and his wife Angie (a Media Specialist with the Elmore County School System) live in Ramer.

Teresa Jane Seevers, Director of Programs & Music, has been with Woodland since May, 2006. Teresa oversees the music ministry at Woodland, is a Stephen Leader and provides pastoral care, leads a weekly women's bible study, as well as assists Woodland in implementing key components of our Vision Plan. She has two adult children, R.J. (who says his mom is his best friend) and Caty Jane. Teresa can be reached at the church, 272-7230, or by email.

Debbie Mills, Children's Program Coordinator, and her husband Scott have three children. They are very active in many of our programs and activities. Debbie is the perfect choice as Woodland's Children's Program Coordinator. She does a wonderful job with the special events we have for children, and also plans our ongoing programs such as Children's Church and Wednesday Night Fellowship (on Wednesdays during the school year). Kathy Blount, Nursery Worker, has been a member at Woodland for many years and our faithful nursery worker for almost a decade. When her son Ronnie was a teen, she was very active in the Youth Ministry. Now her son is married to a third-generation Woodland member, Michelle Younkin Blount, and they have two young sons. Stop by the nursery and see if you can pick out Kathy's grandchildren...although her lap is often full (!!!), many times it is not her own grandchild sitting in it.

Leah Floyd, Administrative Assistant, joined Woodland's staff in September 2006. She lives with her husband Dane and children Chris & Haley (students at Macon East) in Bridlebrook. As you can imagine, Woodland is the perfect place for her to work--she passes it several times a day going between home & school!

Willie Randall, Custodian, has been on the staff at Woodland for several years. He and his family live in Cecil, AL. Willie is retired from Aldersgate UMC in Montgomery.
